How the Colors of the Night Sky Changed My Website

Sometimes, inspiration comes from where we least expect it.
That’s exactly what happened with the color concept for this website.
I had the structure quickly mapped out – but the right palette felt elusive.
I experimented with black-and-white contrasts, bold accents, minimalist tones.
Nothing felt right.

A Spontaneous Drive to Kaiserslautern

On May 10, 2024, after a long day, I spontaneously drove to Kaiserslautern.
The plan: dinner at a small burger spot tucked away in the city center.
Later that evening, I stopped near the highway to think about the site’s design and watch the night sky.

What I didn’t know then:
that night, the northern lights were forecast over Germany.

At first, I hesitated.
Would I really wait around in a parking lot, hoping to see something that might not happen?

The Sky Turns Violet – And Everything Changes

At 10:30 PM, I took a photo of the moon.
And then, suddenly, the sky changed.
A deep violet-magenta glow appeared – calm, surreal, and powerful.

I stayed. For hours.
Until long after 2 AM.
Just watching.

That night, the sky became my color reference.
Its unexpected glow held everything I’d been looking for – clarity, calm, emotion.
And that’s the palette you see on this site today.
